Andrew Leckey

Andrew, who became the first Director of the Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism when it was launched at the American Press Institute in 2003, is also a long-time syndicated investment columnist for The Chicago Tribune. He now directs the Center from its headquarters at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Communication at Arizona State University, where it moved in July 2006. He received the National Association of Investor's Corporation's "Distinguished Award in Investment Education." He was previously a CNBC anchor, editor of the Random House anthology series The Best Business Stories of the Year and contributing editor to Quicken.com. The first Director of the Bloomberg Business Journalism Program at the University of California, Berkeley, Leckey is author or editor of 10 financial books. He has received executive education certificates from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Jonathan Higuera

Jonathan, who became the first Deputy Director of the Reynolds Center in November 2006, is a veteran business reporter who worked most recently at The Arizona Republic. He manages some of the Center’s key programs, writes for BusinessJournalism.org and represents the Center at training workshops. Jonathan’s career has included business reporting for The Arizona Daily Star and Tucson Citizen and a metro reporter for The Washington Times. He also held editing positions in Washington, D.C., for the Hispanic Link Weekly Report and Foundation News & Commentary. He is the president of the Arizona Latino Media Association and former vice president-print of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. He holds a B.A. in journalism from the Cronkite School at Arizona State University, a M.S. in Mexican-American Studies from the University of Arizona and is a member of the Reynolds Center's Circle of Achievement.

Anita Malik

As Web Managing Editor, Anita is responsible for design, content and daily management of BusinessJournalism.org and Reynolds Center’s marketing campaigns. She is also a presenter at its workshops. She joined the staff in December 2007. A tech-savvy journalist, Anita has a strong track record in media entrepreneurship and design. She is the publisher and founding editor of East West, a niche lifestyle magazine targeting Asian Americans and has been recognized as “one to watch” in the magazine industry by Folio. Anita has also worked at MetroNetworks, as a radio reporter, and at The Arizona Republic. She has a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Southern California and a bachelor’s degree in business from Arizona State University.

Kelly Carr

Assistant Web Editor Kelly writes and edits stories for BusinessJournalism.org. She is also involved in organizing and editing the Reynolds Center’s workshop training materials, as well as participating in its workshops. She joined the staff in December 2007. Kelly has experience as a reporter for several newspapers, most recently The Arizona Republic, and has been an adjunct professor at Arizona State University’s Cronkite School. She has a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Nonfiction from Goucher College and holds a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from West Virginia University. Kelly also was a fellow at The Poynter Institute and a contributing writer for Cancer Stories: Lessons in Love, Loss & Hope.

David Hill

As Program Manager, David is responsible for managing and reconciling daily financial accounts, making budget forecasts, assuring compliance with grant requirements, and serving as the primary contact for workshop hosts, trainers and attendees. Before joining the Center in April 2008, he spent six years as the Business Manager for Student Government and the Rebel Yell at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. There he managed a $1.5 million budget and the awards he received included Professional Staff Member of the Year. Before that, he was an instructional specialist for the Arizona State University Learning Resource Center. He holds a B.S. in Economics from ASU.

Jackie Sponberg

Jacalyn (Jackie) joined the Center as Program Coordinator in July 2007. She is responsible for registrations and workshop materials for the Reynolds Center and coordinates entries from around the country for the annual Barlett & Steele Awards for Investigative Journalism. Before joining the Center, Jackie spent six years at the Kyrene School District in Tempe, Arizona, holding positions in attendance reporting, supplemental education and human resources. Previously, she co-owned a video store in Naples, Florida. She holds a business management degree from the University of Phoenix.

The Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism is headquartered at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Communication at Arizona State University. The Center was launched in 2003 at the American Press Institute with a grant from the Las Vegas, Nev.-based Donald W. Reynolds Foundation. Designed to be an ongoing, long-term venture, it sponsors daylong workshops, online seminars and a Web site devoted entirely to business journalism. The Cronkite School at ASU is a leading professional journalism school with nearly 2,000 undergraduate and master's students.
