This summer Steven Overly, a journalism student from the University of Maryland, spent his days as an intern inside the newsroom at Cleveland’s The Plain Dealer. From his first day on the job, he was up for the challenge, tackling business stories and learning first-hand the skills he needed to be a better reporter. The Ohio newsroom, he said, provided a fertile place to grow.
Overly was one of seven students scattered at newspapers across the nation for 10-week business journalism internships funded by the Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism.
“From home values to food and fuel prices, the ebb and flow of the economy is being chronicled on front pages nationwide," Overly said. "Those business stories provide readers with critical information and programs like the Reynolds Center internship help ensure tomorrow's journalists are prepared to tell them. I'm glad to be one of them.
