FREE ONE-DAY BUSINESS JOURNALISM WORKSHOP IN KNOXVILLE, TENN. ON SEPTEMBER 16, 2008
A FREE one-day business journalism workshop will be held in Knoxville, Tenn., on Tuesday, September 16, 2008. This workshop is open not only to business journalists, but to journalists covering other beats who wish to learn more about covering business.
The “Business Journalism Boot Camp” program covers the basics of using numbers in understanding financials, deciphering government filings, covering private companies and writing effective profiles of companies and CEOs.
This workshop is sponsored by the Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism and hosted by the University of Tennessee School of Journalism & Electronic Media; UT College of Communication and Information; Knoxville News Sentinel and the East Tennessee Chapter of SPJ.
Presenters are James Gentry, professor and former dean of the School of Journalism at the University of Kansas, and Jodi Schneider, Congressional Quarterly's Training Director and former business editor of The Washington Post. William Rukeyser, the editorial director of Corporate Board Member magazine, will deliver a luncheon keynote address.
“More than 7,000 journalists nationwide have attended Reynolds Center workshops and understanding basic financial concepts and writing with style are skills that belong in every journalist’s portfolio,” said Andrew Leckey, director of the Reynolds Center.
Registration for this workshop is available here.
The Reynolds Center is funded by a grant from the Las Vegas, Nevada-based Donald W. Reynolds Foundation.
Please do not register unless you are sincere about attending and have been given authorization by your editor to do so. Since our workshops are often oversubscribed, no-shows keep other potential registrants from attending and waste food purchased for morning and lunch meals. Registration will close one week prior to the designated date for each individual workshop. The agenda for the upcoming workshop is as follows:
