FREE ONE-DAY BUSINESS JOURNALISM WORKSHOP
IN PHOENIX ON MARCH 4
A free one-day business journalism workshop will be held in Phoenix on Tuesday, March 4, 2008. This workshop is open not only to business journalists, but to journalists covering other beats who wish to learn more about covering business.
The “High Intensity Business Coverage: From Financials to Writing with Style” program covers important areas from deciphering company financial statements to writing effective company and CEO profiles.
Presenters include James Gentry, a professor and former dean at the School of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Kansas, Dick Weiss, a writing consultant and former metro editor and writing coach at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Curt Hazlett, a longtime business journalist, Andrew Leckey, director of the Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism, and Kelly Carr, assistant web editor of BusinessJournalism.org.
This workshop is sponsored by the Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism and hosted by The Arizona Republic. The workshop will be held at The Republic’s office at 200 E. Van Buren St., Phoenix, AZ 85004.
“More than 6,000 journalists nationwide have attended Reynolds Center workshops and Arizona has provided an especially strong response,” said Andrew Leckey, director of the Reynolds Center. “Understanding basic financial concepts and writing with style are skills that belong in every journalist’s portfolio.”
Registration for this workshop is available here. We encourage you to learn more about the Reynolds Center, its various programs and business coverage through this site that is updated daily.
The Reynolds Center is funded by a grant from the Las Vegas, Nevada-based Donald W. Reynolds Foundation.
Please do not register unless you are sincere about attending and have been given authorization by your editor to do so. Since our workshops are often oversubscribed, no-shows keep other potential registrants from attending and waste food purchased for morning and lunch meals. Registration will close one week prior to the designated date for each individual workshop. The agenda for the upcoming workshop is as follows:
